The Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) is a new initiative being introduced by the NSW Government to assist in reducing litter and pollution, enabling us to live in a cleaner and safer environment. The CDS, also known as Return and Earn, will be implemented across the majority of venues in NSW and will cause some minor changes here at St George Leagues.
The CDS requires a deposit of 10 cents on all eligible containers outlined by the NSW Government. These containers range from 150mL to 3L in volume and can be made from aluminium, glass, HDPE, liquid paperboard, PET, and steel with some exceptions such as wine, milk, and spirits bought at purchase.
The CDS aims to reduce litter volume by 40% by the year 2020 and is the largest litter reduction scheme implemented by the NSW Government. The CDS also has the potential to aid local councils in reducing the costs associated with clearing litter from their designated areas.
St George Leagues Club will be participating in the scheme to help our community become a safer place to live. However, this means that our club will be responsible for funding the scheme and its associated costs. This will be reflected in the pricing of our beverages with increases as of the 1st of November.
