St George Leagues Bowling Club has entered a new phase and identity now known as a “Social Bowling Club” giving the club more flexibility in its organisation regarding obligations to the Royal NSW Bowls Association.
The Club still plays on Wednesdays each week at Moorefield Bowling Club, 40-54 French Street, Kogarah. With the usual strong support of St George Leagues Club and their respective Sports Council the lawn bowls club will be able to actively promote bowls at a less formal level. We would like to see more bowlers come from other clubs and join in on our Wednesday afternoon bowls. This means if you are a first time bowler who would like to come and learn to play lawn bowls or any level of experience of bowling and would like to play mixed social bowls midweek all welcome to come and join us. The games commence at 1pm, the green fees are $7, game duration is approx. 2½ hours followed by afternoon tea. There are meat raffles - participation is optional. If you or anyone you know of would like to have a go at lawn bowls please contact the Bowls Co-ordinator Sue Hall on 0490 790 901 or Moorefield Bowling Club (after 11:30am) 9587 6299 names to be in by 12:30pm to allow time for the draw to be organised. Fred as everyone knew him was a Life Member of the St. George Leagues Club, St. Georges Leagues Club Bowling Club and St. George Leagues Sports Council. He worked tirelessly for our bowling club as well as collecting donations for the Children’s Hospital Fund. To Fred’s family we extend our sincere condolences and we in the bowling club will miss a close friend and his good humour. This year Horrie Nicholson, Laurie Suggate and John Howard long term members have retired from executive positions though still remain active club members. We thank them for their hard work, time and effort put in over the years.
